Bu çalışmada, Türkiye'de kamuya ait yüzme havuzlarının cankurtaran seçimi ve eğitimi ile ilgili durumu araştırıldı. Bu amaçla, GSGM, mahalli idareler ve eğitim kurumlarına ait sportif amaçlı kullanılan olimpik, yarı olimpik açık ve/veya kapalı toplam 80 yüzme havuzunda cankurtaran seçimi ve eğitimi ile ilgili hazırlanan kontrol listesi, doğal gözlem ve yetkili kişilerle yüz yüze görüşme yöntemi ile yerinde dolduruldu. Sonuçta Türkiye'deki havuzların cankurtaran seçimi ve eğitimi konusunda ortalama %52 oranında standartlara uygun olmadığı, havuz tipi açısından ise açık yüzme havuzlarının cankurtaran seçimi ve eğitimi konusunda kapalı yüzme havuzlarına göre daha özenli yönetildiği anlaşıldı. Mevcut durumun kullanıcı sağlığını önemli düzeyde tehdit ettiği düşünüldüğünden, cankurtaran eğitiminde ve ilkyardım personeli sayısında belli bir standart getirilmesinin yanı sıra havuz personeline temel yaşam desteği verme, acil durum teçhizatını kullanma konularında periyodik eğitim verilmesi ve her sektöre ait havuzlar için acil durum planının yapılması ile ilgili mevzuatın spordan Sorumlu Devlet Bakanlığı ile İçişleri, Sağlık, Turizm Bakanlıklarının ortaklaşa çıkarabilmesi için su sporlarını ilgilendiren federasyonlar ve konu ile ilgili sivil toplum örgütleri ile görüş alış verişi yapılması gerektiği kanısına varıldı.

In this study, the case of selection and education of the lifeguards at public pools is studied. For this purpose, the control list related to the lifeguard education and selection in total 80 swimming pools,olympic-semi olympic,open and closed, that are used for sportive purposes belonging to Youth and Sport General Directorship and Local adminstration," was filled by the natural observations and face to face contact technics. As a result, it is found that, the pools in Turkey are not appropriate by 52% regarding the selection and education of lifeguards. It is also observed that, the open swimming pools are more attentively directed than the closed swimming pools regarding selection and education of the life guards. It is arrived at a conclusion that, it should be brought a Standard to the number of first-aid personel, also in education of life guards, for the health threat of the existent condition. It is also arrived at a conclusion that, pool personnels should be given an education of basic life aid subjects and using of the materials in urgent conditions and it is decided that, implementation of exchange of views between the related nongovernmental organisations and the water sports-related federations is a must to make legislations, which will ve acted in common with the responsible Ministry of State, Minister of the Interior, Minister of Health, and minister of Tourism.
