Validity and reliability of sport spectator identification scale (SSIS)

This study was designed to test the validity and reliability of "Sport Spectator Identification Scale" developed by Wann and Branscombe (1993). 297 (Xage= 20.39 ± 1.83) university students (202 male & 95 female) aged between 17 - 27 years who supporting a team participated in the study. Principle component factor analysis was used for testing the construct validation of the scale and percent of variance explained by the one-factor is 59 %. The internal consistency (Cronbach alpha) of the scale was .87. The test-retest reliability of the scale based on from 48 students (Xage= 21.75 ± 2.05) (29 male & 19 female) aged between 17 - 27 years who responded to the questionnaire with three week interval was .85. Reliability and validity findings of the scale indicated that the scale can be used for sport spectators.
