Yeterli çevre eğitiminin verilemeyişi, nüfusun hızla artması ve sanayi alanındaki gelişmeler çevre kirliliğinin temel faktörlerindendir. Ayrıca, , her şeye rağmen fazla kazanma hırsı, doğal kaynakların sorumsuzca kullanılması ve bunların sınırsız olduğu duygusunun hâkim olması da çevre kirliliğinin başlıca sebeplerindendir. Kirliliğin boyutlarının sürekli artması günümüz insanının varlığını tehlikeye düşürmekte, geleceğinden endişe duyar hale getirmektedir. Çevre kirliliğinin sebebinin insanın kendisi olduğu aşikârdır. İnsanların hem kendilerine hem de çevrelerine zarar vermeden yaşamaları ancak alacakları eğitim sayesinde mümkün olur. Çevre eğitimi, bireye okullarda, okul öncesi dönemden başlayarak ilk, orta ve yükseköğretim dönemlerinde sürekli ve kesintisiz olarak verilmelidir.Bu sürece, okul dışında kişinin yaşadığı çevrede de devam edilmelidir. Basın ve yayın organlarından yeterince faydalanmak, kazanılan davranışların kalıcı olmasını sağlayacaktır. Verilen eğitim, çevre bilincinin toplumsal kültür haline gelmesini sağlar. Eğitim, kişinin kendisini tanımasını ve sağlıklı yaşamasını sağladığı gibi çevresini kirletmemeyi ve onu korumayı da öğretir.

Not to be given enough education about the environment, increasing the population rapidly the industrial developments and waste of it are the main factors of the environmental pollution. In addition that using of the natural resources irresponsibly even though they were endless in the nature can also be counted another related factors of the pollution. Increasing the density of pollution harms the present human life and makes his future life be in anxious. It is obvious that the cause of environmental pollution is the human beings himself. Living without harming himself and the environment can only be given the human beings by the education process. Environmental education should be given to the man in the education process and to be started in the pre-school education period continuening in the following stages until the end of his university education life. Even it should be continued in his whole life apart from the school. With the suppuration of the press about this subject, the behaviors gained before and the experiences had about will be more effective and permanent. If the education process on this matter can be done well, environmental conscious will be a part of the active cultural life. The human beings can be taught in education about knowing himself, learning how to live in health, as keeping his environment clean.
