Hellenistik Dönemdeki Güçler Dengesi Arasında Pamphylia’da Bir Liman Kenti: Side

III. Aleksandros Büyük İskender MÖ 336-323 Küçük Asia’daki Pers tehlikesini ortadan kaldırıp, doğuya doğru birçok kültürü egemenliğine kattığında nasıl ki eskiçağ dünyasında “Hellenistik Dönem” diye adlandırılacak yeni bir süreç başlamışsa, bu büyük askerin Babil’deki erken ölümü geniş bir alanı aniden yöneticisiz bırakmıştır. Bu boşluğun doldurulması ve onun halefi olma noktasında III. Aleksandros’un komutanları birbirleriyle savaşmaya başlamış ve sonuçta Akdeniz havzasında irili ufaklı bir çok krallık ortaya çıkmıştır. Siyasal ve ekonomik nedenlerle birbirleriyle mücadele eden büyük güçler yanında bir çok kent de varlığını sürdürmek için bu devletlere karşı çeşitli diplomatik yada askeri manevralar geliştirmek zorunda kalmıştır. Bu anlayıştan yola çıkarak yazının konusunu, limanı nedeniyle Pamphylia bölgesinin öne çıkan merkezlerinden biri olan Side’nin, dönemin bölgesel anlamdaki büyük güçleriyle, yani Makedon Krallığı, Antigonos Krallığı, Ptolemaios Krallığı, Seleukos Krallığı ve Pergamon Krallığı yanında Roma ile yeni başlayan politik ilişkileri oluşturacaktır. Eskiçağ kaynakları, nümizmatik buluntu, arkeolojik ve yayınlanmış sınırlı sayıda epigrafik belgenin değerlendirileceği yazıda böylelikle, bir yandan genel olarak hem Pamphylia’nın hem de Side’nin Hellenistik dönemdeki tarihsel süreci izlenmeye çalışılacaktır.

After Alexander the Great 336-323 BC defeated Persians in Asia Minor and invaded many states towards the East, a new era called Hellenistic Period began in the ancient world. Then, the sudden death of Alexander the Great in Babylon brought the decentralization of his empire. His generals started to struggle with each other in order to be the successor of Alexander. As a result of these wars, several kingdoms appeared in the Mediterranean basin. And consequently the ancient world witnessed significant developments such as the struggle of the large kingdoms because of the political and economical interests and the diplomatic and military manoeuvres of the cities, that want to survive in the Hellenistic Era, against the large political and military powers. In this context, this paper tries to discuss the political relations of Side, which is an strategic city due to the its harbour in the Pamphylian region, with the political powers of the era, Kingdoms of Macedonia, Antigonos, Ptolemaios, Seleucid and Pergamon, and its first contacts with Rome. The paper also aims at showing general historical process of Pamphylia and the ancient Side in the Hellenistic period by evaluating the ancient authors, numismatic and archaeological findings and a few published epigraphic documents
