Evaluation of the Effects of ultrasonic root-end cavity preparation with different surgical-tips and at different power-settings on marginal adaptation of root-end filling material

Background: The aim of this in-vitro study was to evaluate the effects of different ultrasonic surgical-tips and power-settings on marginal adaptation of root-end filling material. Methods: Fifty-four extracted human single-rooted teeth were selected for this study. The coronal parts of the teeth were removed at the cemento-enamel junction and the root canals were instrumented with a crown-down technique using ProTaper rotary files up to file F3 at the working length. The root canals were filled with ProTaper F3 gutta-percha and AH Plus root canal sealer using a single-cone technique. The apical 3 mm of each root was resected and the roots were divided into six experimental groups 15 rooteach. 10 roots were used as negative and positive control. Rootend cavities were prepared with diamond coated ultrasonic surgical tip, zirconium nitride coated ultrasonic surgical tip, stainless steel ultrasonic surgical tip at half power and high power settings. Rootend cavities were filled Super-EBA regular set. Marginal adaptation of root-end filling was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy The results were statistically analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test. Result: There were no statistically differences between the marginal adaptations of the experimental groups (P>0,01). Conclusion: Under the conditions of this in-vitro study, it was observed that the ultrasonic surgical tips or power settings used during root-end cavity preparation did not affect the marginal adaptation of root-end filling material.
