Piyasa Ekonomisi ve Özgürlük
Bu çalışma, liberal düşüncenin temel unsurlarından biri olan piyasa ekonomisi kavrayışını ve onun özgürlükle olan zorunlu ilişkisini incelemeyi ve sorgulamayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu inceleme/sorgulama, siyaset felsefesinin en önemli konularından biri olan özne-yapı sorunsalının liberal konumlandırılışına ilişkin bir analiz çerçevesi de sunmaktadır. Liberal felsefenin özünü “bireysel özgürlük ilkesi” oluşturur. Tüm liberal kurum ya da değerlerin temelinde bu ilke yatmaktadır. Liberalizmin kendiliğinden doğan düzen ve piyasa ekonomisi anlayışını, bireycilik ve özgürlük ilkelerinin toplumsal ve ekonomik ilişkiler alanına tercüme edilmiş ifadeleri olarak okumak mümkündür. Özgürlüklerin yeşerdiği bir alan olarak piyasanın insanlığın geliştirmiş olduğu kişisel tercih anlamında özgürlük ile etkinliği birleştiren yegâne toplumsal araç olduğu düşüncesi, liberal teoride can alıcı bir öneme sahiptir. Bununla birlikte liberal teorinin, aslen piyasa ekonomisine dayalı bir toplum ya da ekonomi düşüncesi değil, aksine bireysel özgürlük ve kendiliğindenliğe dayalı bir “özgürleşme felsefesi” olduğunu vurgulamak gerekir. Açıktır ki, liberal teori “piyasa ekonomisi” savunusunda “bireysel özgürlük” savunusunda olduğu kadar güçlü değildir. Mükemmeliyetçi tasavvurlardan kaçınmayı kendine şiar edinen birçok liberal, bu güçsüzlük ya da kırılganlığı bir özgürleşme jesti olarak kavrama eğiliminde olacaktır. Gerçekten de Aydınlanmanın kurucu felsefesi olarak liberalizm, Aydınlanma döneminden günümüze özgürlüğün bireyci ve negatif muhtevasının istikrarlı bir taşıyıcısı olmuştur

FREE MARKET ECONOMY AND FREEDOM
This study aims to analyze and question the conception of free market economy -which features one of the fundamental elements of liberal theory- and its essential relationship with freedom. This analysis/questioning also serves as an analytical framework with regard to the liberal postulation of agent-structure problematique, which marks one of those most significant arguments of political philosophy. “The principle of individual freedom” constitutes the core of liberal philosophy. This principle underlies the whole set of liberal institutions and values. It is possible to perceive liberalism’s understandings of spontaneous order and free market economy as the translated versions of individualism and freedom principles into the domains of social and economic life. The claim that the market, as a medium where the freedoms flourish, is the only social devise to combine the freedom -as a concept of individual preference developed by the humankind- and efficiency holds a vital significance in liberal theory. Nevertheless, it must be emphasized that the liberal theory is not a conception of society or economy originally based on free market economy but rather it is a “philosophy of liberation” based on individual freedom and spontaneity. It is quite apparent that the liberal theory in its defense of “free market economy” is not as strong as in its defense of “individual freedom”. Many liberals, who adopt keeping away from perfectionist understandings as an ultimate principle, will tend to conceive this weakness or fragility as a gesture of liberation. Indeed, as the founding philosophy of Enlightenment, liberalism has been a consistent champion of the individualist and negative content of freedom from Enlightenment to today
