Flight simulation environment of the indigenous Turkish unmanned aerial vehicle (ANKA)
Indigenous Turkish Unmanned Aerial Vehicle ANKA, which is developped by TAI (Turkish Aircraft Industries) is a MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) class UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). In ANKA development project, before the flight phases, system and software integration and verification is done in an enviroment called System Integration Laboratory (SIL). In this environment, modeling software (“PLANT”) to simulate air vehicle dynamics on ground and in air, sensor simulation software to simulate sub-systems and equipments of air vehicle, Flight Control Computer to manage the flight functions, Air Vehicle Control Computer to control the air vehicle from ground, Mission Planning Software to create mission plans and follow air vehicle from map and systems on which all these software runs, are available. Within the scope of this paper, information about systems and software in ANKA SIL environment is given, the interfaces between software and systems are mentioned, how the flight simulation environment works as a whole and how the tests are done, are explained. Beside ANKA SIL as a whole, air vehicle modelling software (“PLANT”) and air vehicle sensor simulation software, which forms the core speciality of ANKA SIL, are explained in detail
