The Relationship between resource dependency and strategic alliance: The Effects of resource characteristics on alliance formation

Lots of facts, such as the increasing uncertainty and complexity in the external and internal environments of organizations, technological developments, variations of competition, market conditions and demands of more growth, direct managers to develop somedifferent methods and strategies in management. In order to gain superiority and advantage for these topics, organizations are interested in many types of strategic alliances such as joint ventures, technological alliances, research and development opportunities and license agreements. Instead of trying to own the resources they need, by developing inter-organizational strategic alliances, they acquire these resources with the other organizations. When organization literature is investigated, it can be seen that a strategic alliance concept deals with some other theories such as resource dependency theory, transaction cost theory and resource-based approaches. In this paper, the effects of the formation of strategic alliance for resource characteristics of organization s sub-dimensions (mobility, imitability, substitutability) are investigated in the resource availability uncertainty characteristic of resource dependency theory.
