This paper examines the historical background and the development of Russian dance tradition. The first part focuses on the Russian folk dances; how they come to light in the tribal society of Ants in the VI-VII Centuries. The second part discusses how the traditional folk dances (e.g. skomaroh) developed and became professionalized and widespread in VIII-IX Centuries. Finally the third part traces the progress of the Russian theatre dance with native and other influences and its acquisition of a new professional concept.
