1957 yılında film yapımcısı Lazar Wechsler yazar Friedrich Dürrenmatt’a bir senaryo siparişi verir.Dürrenmatt kendisine daha önce yazmış olduğu romanının bir bölümünü gönderir.Senaryo daha sonra „Aydınlık Bir Günde Oldu“ başlığıyla Heinz Rühmann ve Gert Fröbe‘nin başrolünü aldığı filme çekilir.Filmden sonra Dürrenmatt eseri üzerine tekrar çalışır.Yazarın eserini tekrar ele almasından sonra dedektif ve polisiye eserlerin tekrar tartışıldığı „Yemin“ başlıklı romanı 1958 yılında yayımlanır.Ancak daha önce çekilen film romandan daha farklıdır.Dürrenmatt dedektif romanlarının gerçekle örtüşmediğini vurgular.Ona göre bu eserlerde olaylar sürekli olarak sistematik ve hiç hata ve yanılmaya yer vermeden gelişir.Oysa çoğu zaman olayları tesadüfler ve ani oluşan durumlar belirler.

In the spring of 1957, the film producer Lazar Wechsler ordered a film narrative from Friedrich Dürrenmatt. Dürrenmatt prepared a preliminary version of the novel, which he later processed into a script with the director of the film, Ladislao Vajda. It was filmed under the title “It happened in Broad Daylight” with Heinz Rühmann and Gert Fröbe in the leading roles. After completing the script, Dürrenmatt went back to work. He took up the subject again and processed it. The result was the book The Pledge with the subtitle “Requiem for the Detective Novel”, because in and with it the current rules of a crime novel are put up for discussion. The book was published in 1958. The plot of the film differs greatly from the plot of the book. Dürrenmatt wants to show that the current form of the crime novel is no longer identical with reality. The exposure of the cases is always presented systematically and without great misdirection. Some things happen much more by chance and spontaneous ideas.
