Tekstil mamulünü oluşturan kumaşların yıkama sonrası boyut değişimlerinin belirli sınırlar içinde olması oldukça önemlidir. Özellikle dış pazarlarda kalite değerlendirmesinde boyut değişimi birinci derecede rol oynamaktadır. Bu bakımdan dokuma ve örme kumaşlar için ülkemizde ve dünyada yıkama esnasında oluşacak boyut değişimleri için bazı standartlar kabul edilmiş olup, bu standartlara uygunluk özellikle gelişmiş ülkeler için önemli bir kriter olmaktadır. Yıkamada boyut değişimi denildiğinde çoğunlukla kumaşın boydan çekmesi yani kısalması akla gelmektedir. Çünkü kumaş üretimi sırasında hep boydan gerdirildiği için en fazla problem bu yönde olmaktadır. Bu araştırmada değişik kumaşların yıkama sonrası yapılan asarak ve tamburlu kurutma işlemlerinde ortaya çıkan boyut değişimleri incelenmiş ve değerlendirilmiştir. Ayrıca bu kumaşlardan üretilen giysilerde yıkama ve ütü işlemleri sonrası çekme değerleri araştırılmıştır.

It is very important that the dimensional changes of the fabrics of the textile materials such as fabrics remain in limits after washing. Especially at the export markets the dimensional stability is the most important factor of quality. Therefore; some standarts regarding the dimensional changes which can occur during washing for the knitted and woven fabrics had been agreed in the world and also in our country. When mentioning about "the dimensional changes after washing" we usually think of the length shrinkages or shortening which the fabric is mostly stretched on the length dırectıon. This explaines us where the most problems come from. In this study the dimensional changes of the various fabrics which occurs during line-dry and tumble dry process after washing has been examined and evaluated. Beside this, the shrinkages of the garments made from this fabrics after washing and ironing has been searched.
