Toptaşı Bimarhanesi’nin 1878 yılına ait bir yıllık ecza malzeme listesi, Bimarhane’nin eczanesi ve hastaların tedavisinde kullanılan ilaçlar hakkında önemli bilgiler sunmaktadır. Liste, temel olarak “ruh”, “su”, “yağ”, “hulasa” gibi işlenmiş bitkisel drogları içermektedir. Bir kısım ecza ise “merhem” “yakı” gibi hazırlanmış ilaç şeklindedir. Bazı bitkisel droglar sedatif ve hipnotik etkileriyle hastaların tedavisinde diğerlerinden daha önemlidir. Şişeler, etiketler, kıl elek, terazi vb. malzemeleri içeren liste, aynı zamanda Toptaşı Bimarhanesi’nin işleyen bir eczaneye sahip olduğunu göstermektedir.

The annual list of various drugs and pharmaceutical products for the year 1878 gives us information about the Toptaşı Lunatic Asylum’s pharmacy, and the medical treatment offered to the patients. The list includes mainly vegetable drugs, some processed into forms like tinctures, decoctions, oils and extracts. Preparations of unguents and plasters are also included. Certain drugs with sedative and hypnotic effects seem to be preffered in the management of the mental conditions. The list, which included bottles, labels, sieve, balance etc., also testifies that Toptaşı Lunatic Asylum had a productive pharmacy in operation in latter years of the nineteenth century.
