Cumhuriyet döneminde Doğu Karadeniz bölgesinin akarsuları üzerinde elektrik santralleri kurma projelerinden biri ‘Giresun Kudret-i Miyah Elektrik Türk Anonim Şirketi’ne aittir. Teknik projesinin 1925 yılında hazırlandığı bildirilen girişim başarısız olmuştur. Şirketin Dahili Nizamnamesi, girişimin belirli özelliklerini ortaya koymaktadır.

Small scale water-powered electrical plants on the rivers of the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey were among the first energy projects in the Turkish Republic. The Hydropower Electric Company established in Giresun in 1925, was a private venture aiming to produce electrical energy for the lighting of the town and the local industries. The by-laws of the company reflect the priorities and structure of the enterprise.
