Laparoskopik Sleeve Gastrektomi Materyallerinde Histopatolojik Bulguların Deg erlendirilmesi
Evaluation of Histopathological Findings in Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Specimens
Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is a common surgical therapeutic option in patients with morbid obesity that debate about the value of routine histopathological examination of LSG. Also the effect of Helicobacter pylori (HP) colonization of the stomach of patients under going LSG is unclear. Our aim is to analyze the results of histopathological examination of LSG specimens and identify the prevalence of HP. This study is a retrospective study of the patients who underwent LSG for the treatment of morbid obesity in our hospital between 2014-2018. Sex, age, histopathological findings in the surgical specimens and prevalence of HP infection were analyzed. Gastric specimens of a total of 110 patients (90 females, 20 males; mean age 38 ± 11.9 years) were analyzed in this study. The most common histopathological findings in the surgical specimens were chronic inactive gastritis (57.3%, n=63), chronic active gastritis (34.5%, n= 38), intestinal metaplasia (6.4%, n=7), atropy (12.7%, n=14), fundic gland polyp (1.8%, n=2), parietal cell hypertrophia (0.9 %, n=1). Fourty eight (43.6%) patients were found to be HP positive. There was statistically significant correlation between gastritis and HP infections. The majority of patients who underwent LSG had pathological findings in resected specimens. It is concluded that the pathological evaluation of the LSG specimens is necessary because of the clinical significance of HP infection, atropy and intestinal metaplasia.
