MNCs annually select thousand of people to staff not only their home country facilities but also their subsidiaries araund the world Home country nationals are managers who are citizetens of the country where the MNC is headquartered These managers commonly are called expatriates. Third country nationals are managers who are citizens of countries other than the one in which the MNC is headquartered or the one in which they are assigned to work by the MNC. Available data on third-country national are not as extensive as those on home -or host- country national. Overseas managers must be able to adapt to change. They also need a degree of cultural toughness. Research shows that many managers are exhilarated at the beginning of their overseas assignment. One analysis noted that many of the most effective international managers suffer this cultural shock. Here is an example provided by a expatriate managers who is assigned the Turkey.
