Evaluation in ratios knee joint hamstring/quadriceps (h/q) izokinetic strength in elite level athlates

This study aimed to assess determining H/Q ratios and injury tendency between elite athletes who participating in different kind of sports branches and sedentary persons in light of the available data. 30 athletes (age: 20,70±2,4) who deal with different kinds of sports branches actively and 30 control groups (age: 20,87±2,4) were participated in this study in Afyonkarahisar. The participants were chosen among ones who exercise at least 5 days in a week and have been dealing with any sports branches actively at least for the last 5 years. Knee flexion/extension muscle strength of the subjects was measured in 60 deg/sec and 180 deg/sec angular speeds with Biodex System-3 izokinetic dynamometer. Data analysis was performed by SPSS statistical package program. Athletes and control groups izokinetic strenghts of dominant and non-dominant extremity measurement results were evaluated by using Independent-Samples T Test and the significant level was 0,05 and 0,01. The study indicates that the control groups dominant extremity in 60 deg/sec and 180 deg/sec angular speed of H/Q peak torque ratios were higher than the athletes group. This showed a statistically significant difference (p<0.01). No significant difference was observed between groups in terms of the 60 deg/sec and 180 deg/sec angular speed of H/Q peak torque at non-dominant extremity, but a significant statistical difference in favor of controls at 180 deg/sec angular speed of H/Q peak torque ratios was obvious (p<0.01). In conclusion, it is found out that dominant extremity H/Q ratios of athletes are higher than nondominant extremity H/Q (p<0.05). However the verities about injury did not rise above % 10 which is adopted as threshold value. Significant differences at H/Q ratios between athletes and control groups who participated in this study were discovered. Although the participants were not in the risk of having serious injuries, this case has shown that subjects did not take notice of the hamstring muscle group exercise.
