Türkiye hızla kalkınmakta olan bir ülkedir ve bu süreçte enerji ihtiyacı da aynı oranda artmaktadır. Enerji açığı ve tüketilen enerji kaynağı bakımından dışa bağımlılık, bu konuda acil çözümler üretilmesi gerekliliğini doğurmuştur. Enerji açığını kapatmak amacıyla, bir yandan rüzgar ve güneş enerjisi gibi yenilenebilir kaynaklardan enerji üretimi yaygınlaştırılmaya çalışılırken, öte yandan kömür ve su gibi kaynaklardan daha fazla yararlanma yolları araştırılmaktadır. Akarsular üzerine baraj yapılarak enerji üretiminin maliyetli olması ve deltalar başta olmak üzere doğal ekosistemler üzerindeki olumsuz etkilerinin anlaşılması sebebiyle “nehir tipi hidroelektrik santral” yapımı son yıllarda öne çıkmaya başlamıştır. Ancak, sayısı her geçen gün artan bu projelerin önemli bir kısmı, çevresel olarak maalesef telafisi mümkün olmayan sorunları da beraberinde getirmektedir. Bu çalışmada Nehir Tipi HES projelerinin ekolojik ve sosyal açıdan oluşturduğu ve oluşturacağı sorunlar Ayancık HES örneğinde tartışılmaya çalışılmıştır.

Turkey is a rapidly developing country, and for this reason it's need of energy has been increasing in the same way. İt has been necessary to find urgent solutions in means of energy shortage due to exterior dependence on source energy. In order to reduce the energy shortage, while the energy production from renewable sources such as wind and solar energy is being tried to expanded, the ways of larger utilization from sources such as coal and the water are being researched. In recent years, constructing river type hpp has come into prominence as the energy production by building dams over streams is expensive and the harmfull effects of those dams on the eco-systems, especially at deltas are proved. However, most of these projects the number of which is increasing day by day, unfortunately cause irreversible enviromental problems. In this study, the ecological and social problems has been caused by hepp projects and the potential ones are tried to be discussed on the example of Ayancık HEPP.
