Modern Ortadoğu araştırmalarında önemli bir yere sahip olan Suriye, hem bölgesel hem de küresel anlamda yirminci yüzyılın kilit ülkelerinden biri olmuştur. Kendi içinde çelişik, katı siyasal sistemi ve iç içe geçmiş çelişkiler ile örülü sosyolojik yapısı ile son derece karmaşık bir siyasal-toplumsal yapıya sahip olan Suriye, alan ve nüfus olarak sahip olduğu görece küçük sıfatların aksine tarihsel süreçte edindiği “güç” ile bölgesel anlamda önemli bir konuma gelmiştir. Tarihin aynasından yansıyan söz konusu Suriye resminin altında ise hiç kuşkusuz Suriye tarihinin otuz yılına imzasını atan Hafız Esad ismi bulunmaktadır. Suriye, bu makalede genel bir sistem analizine tabi tutularak bugün “Arap Baharı” metaforu çerçevesinde gündemde olan sorulara cevap bulmaya çalışılacaktır.

Syria, having an important position in Middle East researches, has been one of the key countries of the 20th century both in regional and global terms. Syria has a very complex political-sociological structure comprised of a strict political system which is contradictory in itself and a sociological structure that is knitted with contradictions. Despite the relative attributions to its small population and land, Syria has gained an important regional position thank to “the power” it has attained throughout history. There is no doubt that, under the Syrian picture that is reflected from the mirror of the history, there lies down the name of Hafiz Essad who has the signature under the 30 years of Syrian history. In this article, by subjecting Syria to a general system analysis, we will try to answer the questions on the agenda within the current “Arab Spring” metaphore context.
