İş plânları çok önemli ve yararlı dökümanlardan birisidir. İş plânları işletmenin misyonunu ve amaçlarını yazılı biçimde ortaya koyar, işletmenin faaliyetleri ve finansal durumu, mülkiyeti, yönetim yapısı ve amaçlarını, nasıl gerçekleştireceğine ilişkin bilgiler verir. İş plânlarının üç önemli amacı bulunmaktadır. Birincisi, iş fikirlerinin, araştırma sonuçlarının kreditörlere ve yatırımcılara sunulmasında bir iletişim aracıdır. İkinci önemli amacı, girişimin örgütlenmesi ve yönetilmesine ilişkin bir yol haritası oluşturmaktadır. Son amacı ise, gelişimin ölçülmesine olanak verecek bir ölçme aracı olmasıdır.
