12. Dünya Muhasebe Tarihçileri Kongresi 20-24 Temmuz 2008 tarihleri arasında İstanbul’da yapılmıştır. Geçmişten günümüze muhasebe tarihi ve kültürü sloganı ile hazırlanan Kongre’ye 254’ü başka ülkelerden, 318’i Türkiye’den olmak üzere toplam 572 katılım olmuştur. Türkiye ile birlikte kongreye kaydını yaptıran ülke sayısı 58’dir. Ancak bu ülkelerden üçünün delegeleri çeşitli nedenlerle Kongre’ye gelememişlerdir. Kongreye kaydını yaptıran ülkelerin 15’i Orta Doğu ve Balkan ülkeleridir. Türkiye’nin coğrafi konumu katılan ülke sayısının artmasında etkili olmuştur. Kongre’de 239 bildiri tartışılmıştır. Bu bildirilerin 9’u, ana oturumlarda sunulan ve sipariş üzerine hazırlanan bildirilerden oluşmuştur. Kongre 20 Temmuz 2008 tarihinde akşam açılış kokteyli ile başlamış, 24 Temmuz 2008 tarihinde akşam yemekli Boğaz turu ile 22.30’da sona ermiştir. Kongre’de sosyal aktivitelere geniş yer verilmiş olup, özel bir kapanış oturumu düzenlenmiştir. Bir sonraki Kongre 2012’de İngiltere’de, daha sonraki Kongre ise, 2016 yılında İtalya’da yapılacaktır.

(After The 12th World Congress Of Accounting Historians) The 12th World Congress of Accounting Historians was held July 20-24, 2008 in Istanbul. The slogan of the Congress was “Accounting History and Culture: From the past to the present”. 572 delegates participated to the Congress, 254 participants were from foreign countries, when the rest 318 were from Turkey. The number of the countries whose delegates registered was 58 including Turkey. However, the delegates of three of these countries were not able to attend to the Congress as a consequence of different reasons. 15 of the countries whose delegates registered were Middle East and Balkan Countries. The geographical situation of Turkey contributed to the increase in the numberof the participants. 239 papers were discussed at the Congress. 9 of these papers were invited papers that were discussed at the plenary sessions. The Congress started with a welcome cocktail on July 20, 2008 and concluded with the Bosphorus Dinner Tour on three boats at 22.30 on July 24, 2008. The social activities were took an important place in the program of the Congress and a special closing session was organized. The next Congress will be held in the United Kingdom in 2012, when the fallowing one will be held in Italy in 2016.
