Edremit Körfezi (KB Anadolu) karot sedimanlarının jeokimyasal özellikleri: Kaynak ve dağılım koşullarının araştırılması

Edremit Körfezi, ülkemizin KB kıyılarında yer alan jeolojik olarak oldukça karmaşık bir yapıya sahip ve maden potansiyeli ile bilinen Biga Yarımadası’nın güney deniz sınırında yer almaktadır. Biga Yarımadası olarak adlandırılan karasal alanda yapılan çalışmalar hariç körfezde depolanmış denizel sedimanlar hakkında literatürde oldukça kısıtlı bilgiler bulunmaktadır. Bu çalışma kapsamında, körfezden ilk defa sistematik olarak alınmış 60 adet denizel karot üzerinde μXRF analizi yapılarak jeokimya dağılım haritaları hazırlanmıştır. Sediman karotları 30-150 cm uzunlukta, 2,5-3 km yatay mesafede ve 23-85 m arasında değişen su derinliklerinden alınmıştır. Farklı uzunluklara sahip olan karotların en üstteki 10 cm’lik sediman kalınlığı analiz sonuçlarının ortalamaları haritalama çalışmasında kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak elde edilen yaklaşık 30 adet element verisi incelenmiş, yorumlanmış ve haritalanmıştır. Bu çalışma kapsamında ise Ca, Sr, Fe, Ti ve Pb dağılım haritaları sunularak karşılaştırmaları yapılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler, karasal birimlerin formasyon bazındaki özellikleri, denizdeki karasal beslenme alanlarına yakın olan element ve denizel kökenli (Ca, Sr) elementlerin dağılımları, sedimantolojik çökelim süreçlerini net olarak yansıttığını göstermektedir. Ülkemizde gravite karot yöntemi ile ilk defa Edremit Köfrezi’nde yapılan bu sistematik çalışmanın yaygınlaştırılması ile gelecekte ülkemiz plaser yataklarına ilişkin kıymetli veriler ortaya konabilecektir.
