Türkçe literatürde özellikle zihin felsefesine yönelik kitapları ile tanınan John Searle’ün Zihin: Kısa Bir Giriş başlıklı eseri felsefeye ve zihin felsefesine bir giriş kitabı olma niteliği taşıyor. Analitik bir yöntemle yazılan bu eser, çoğu muadili gibi konuları tarihi bir süreç içinde kişi merkezli olarak ele almıyor, problemleri merkeze alarak onları sistematik bir biçimde irdeliyor. Yine Searle, bir giriş kitabında beklenenin aksine, konuları tarafsız bir şekilde ele almıyor, temel bir varsayım hatasından yola çıkarak bir yandan diğer kuramları sistematik eleştiriye tabi tutuyor bir yandan da neredeyse kendi adıyla bütünleşmiş olan biyolojik natüralizm yaklaşımını temellendirmeye çalışıyor. Nihai tahlilde bu inceleme, zihin felsefesinin temel kuramlarını okuyucuya analitik ve sistematik bir biçimde sunan bu eserin, bir zihin felsefesine giriş kitabı olarak alanında başarılı bir çalışma olduğu sonucuna ulaşmaktadır.

Known in Turkish literature for his books on the philosophy of mind, John Searle's Mind: A Brief Introduction is an introductory book to philosophy and the philosophy of mind. Written with an analytical method, this work, unlike most of its counterparts, does not deal with subjects in a historical process in a person-centered manner, but focuses on problems and examines them in a systematic way. Again, contrary to what might be expected in an introductory book, Searle does not deal with the issues in an impartial way; rather, starting from a fundamental error of assumption, he both systematically criticizes other theories and tries to justify the approach of biological naturalism, which is almost integrated with his name. In the final analysis, this review concludes that this work, which presents the basic theories of the philosophy of mind to the reader in an analytical and systematic way, is a successful study in its field as an introductory book to the philosophy of mind.
