AbstractInvestigation of Acute Toxic Effects of Lamda-Cyhalothrin in Rats Objective: In this study, we investigated the acute toxic effects of pyrethroid insecticide Karate Zeon, whose active gradient is lambda-cyhalothrin (LC), on enzymatic and non-enzymatic parameters of male and female rats. Method: LC was administrated intraperitoneally to male and female rats once in three different doses as 0.8 mg/kg, 3.06mg/kg and 6.12mg/kg. After the last treatment with pesticide, blood samples drawn by cardiac puncture were collected in vials containing anticoagulant. After blood samples were centrifuged, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzyme activities, albumin (ALB), and bilirubin (BIL) levels were measured as indicators of hepatic injury; and URE and creatinine (CREA) levels as indicators of kidney injury were measured in plasma. Result: ALT, AST, LDH enzyme activities, and ALB, BIL, UREA and CREA levels were increased by LC in female and male rats compared with the control group. Significantly increases were observed in 3.06mg/kg and 6.12mg/kg dose groups. Conclusion: These results indicate the potential of LC in inducing liver and kidney tissue damage in mammalians. Toxic effects of LC increase in relation to dose.
