Identification of the variables predicting 5 th grade primary school students attitudes towards performance tasks

Elementary school education programs have gone through some changes in line with the program development efforts recently. It is suggested that alternative assessment and evaluation tools examining the process should be used in addition to the traditional ones focusing on the production. Performance tasks are one of the alternative assessment and evaluation methods. The purpose of this study is to identify variables predicting 5th grade primary school students attitudes towards performance tasks. This study was designed as a relational survey model and it was conducted with 299 students. Personal Information and Attitudes Questionnaire developed by Kumandaş (2008) was used as the data collection tool. The data obtained from the study were analyzed using multiple regression analysis technique. Results of the analysis show that students have positive attitudes towards performance tasks, and variables such as gender, education level of the parents, facilities at school, students activities, resources used while doing the performance tasks, people they asked for help were found to be the predictor variables for students attitudes.
