Testicular volume measurement in healthy asymptomatic adolescents with clinically significant ( Grade 2 and 3 ) varicocele

To measure the testicular volumes of healthy asymptomatic adolescent who had clinically significant varicocele (Grade 2, 3). The study composed of 28 patients between ages of 11-19 years. Scrotal ultrasonography (USG) were performed to measure testicular volume. Right testis was used as a control group. Right and left testicular volumes in adolescents with Grade 2 (G-2) and Grade 3 (G-3) varicocele were 13.70±4.56 $cm^3$/13.51±4.87 $cm^3$ and 10.26±4.93 $cm^3$/8.71+3.93 $cm^3$ respectively. The difference between right and left testicular volumes was not statistically significant in both groups (P>0.05). But the difference between testicular volumes of adolescents with G-2 and G-3 varicoceles was significant statistically (p<0.05). Since a volume difference of 3 cm3 and above has been accepted as a testicular growth arrest in adolescents with varicoceles, USG is a valuable diagnostic method for testicular volume measurement in healthy adolescents who have varicoceles.
