Anemurium 2018-2021 Yılı Kazılarında Bulunan Bir Grup Pişmiş Toprak Kandil

İnsanoğlu aydınlatma gereksinimini, ilk olarak gün ışığından faydalanma ve ateş yakma ile daha sonra da meşale, kandil ve mum gibi araç-gereçlerle gidermiştir. Kandiller, hemen her dönemde çağın ihtiyaçları ve sanatına göre değişik biçimlerde karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Çalışmanın konusu, Dağlık Kilikya Bölgesi’nin en önemli merkezlerinden ve liman şehirlerinden birisi olan Anemurium’da 2018-2021 yılları arasında sürdürülen arkeolojik kazı çalışmalarında ele geçen pişmiş toprak kandillerdir. İncelenen kandillerin büyük çoğunluğu Merkez (III 5) Hamamı, geriye kalanlar ise Küçük (III 15) Hamam ve Nekropol Kilisesi kazılarından elde edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada 9 adet kandil incelenmiş olup bunlardan altısı kalıp, üçü de çark yapımıdır. Kalıp yapımı kandiller grubunda üç farklı tip tespit edilmiş olmasına karşın çark yapımı kandillere ait sadece tek bir tipe rastlanmıştır. Kalıp yapımı kandillerden; Tip I (Atlante Tip VIII B)’e ait tek örnek, Tip II (Vessberg Tip 19 (Oziol 4. Seri)’ye ait 3 örnek ve Tip III (Vessberg Tip 20)’e ait 2 örnek, çark yapımı kandiller grubunda ise Anemurium üretimi olduğu düşünülen Tip IV’e ait 3 örnek bulunmaktadır. Kalıp yapımı kandillerde figürlü, bitkisel ve geometrik bezemeler görülmesine karşın çark yapımı örneklerde herhangi bir süsleme unsuruna rastlanmaz. Değerlendirilen kandillerden en erken tarihli olanı MS 4. yüzyılın sonuna ait Tip I (Atlante Tip VIII B) olup diğerleri ise MS 5.-7. yüzyıl aralığına ait örneklerden oluşmaktadır. Bu veriler doğrultusunda Anemurium’da yaklaşık % 67’lik bir oranla kalıp yapımı kandil tercihinin ön planda olduğunu söyleyebiliriz.

A Group of Terracotta Lamps found during the 2018-2021 Excavations at Anemurium

Humanity satisfied its need for lighting by benefiting from daylight and fire making at first, then via tools such as torches, oil lamps and candles etc. In almost every period, lamps appear in different forms according to the needs and the art of the age. The subject of this study is the terracotta lamps which were found during the archaeological excavations carried out in Anemurium between 2018-2021, one of the most important centers and harbor cities of the Rough Cilicia. The majority of the examined lamps were obtained from the excavations of the Central (III 5) Bath and the rest from the Small (III 15) Bath and Necropolis Church. In this study, nine lamps were examined, six of which were mold-made and three were wheel-made. Although three different types were identified in the mold-made lamps group; only one type of wheel-made lamps were found. There is only one example of Type I (Atlante Type VIII B), three examples of Type II (Vessberg Type 19 (Oziol 4th Series) and two examples of Type III (Vessberg Type 20), and three examples of Type IV, which are thought to be produced in Anemurium. Although figural, floral and geometric decorations are observed on the mold-made lamps, no ornamental elements were found on the wheel-made examples. The earliest of the evaluated lamps is Type I (Atlante Type VIII B), dating to the end of the 4th century AD, while the others belong to the 6th-7th centuries AD. These data show that the preference for mold-made lamps were prominent in Anemurium at the rate of approximately 67 percent.
