The investigation of the mechanical properties of galvanized steel-aluminum sheets joints used in automotive industry formed by mechanical clinching

In this study, mechanical properties of the joints which made with the mechanic clinching were investigated. Galvanized steel (St1314) which is used especially in automotive industry and aluminum (Al5754) sheets were selected in clinching joints. Shear and mechanized peel tests were carried out according to TS EN ISO 14273 and TS EN ISO 14270 respectively. Microscopic analyses were also examined to investigate the effect of sheet thickness and sheet place order. The strength for the combination of the upper steel sheet of and the lower aluminum sheet of is approximately two times larger than that of the reverse place order. The fracture and separation were observed in bigger values of sheet thickness ratio.
