Hat sanatının eğitimi benzer plastik sanatlara nazaran oldukça uzun bir süreç gerektirir. Öncelikle harflerin anatomik yapısının ve kompozisyon kurallarının iyice kavranması gerekmektedir. Bunun için hat öğrenmeye başlayan bir kişi dua niteliğindeki ‘Rabbi Yessir’ denilen başlangıç yazısı ile eğitimine başlar. Bu yazının eğitimi oldukça uzun sürebilir. Buradaki maksat, talebenin sabrının ölçülmesi ve gerçek eğitim için alt yapının oluşturulmasıdır. Her sanat dalında gerekli olan ilgi ve sevginin mevcudiyeti bu dönemde ortaya çıkar ve gerekli sabrı gösteremeyenler elenerek hocanın boşuna vakit harcamasının önüne geçilmiş olur. Bu zorlu ilk aşamayı geçenler müfredat ve mürekkebat meşklerini tamamlayarak diploma niteliğindeki ‘icâzetnâme’yi almaya hak kazanırlar. Ancak hattatın eğitimi bu diplomadan sonra da devam ederek bir ömür boyu sürer.

Education of calligraphy requires a rather long process compared to similar plastic arts. First of all, the anatomical structure of the letters and composition rules should be comprehended. For this, a person who starts to learn the calligraphy art starts his/her education with the initial writing called “Rabbi Yessir” which is a prayer. The training of this writing can take quite a long time. The purpose here is to measure the patience of the student and establish the foundations for real education. The existence of the necessary interest and love in every branch of art emerges in this period, and those who cannot show the necessary patience are eliminated, thus preventing the teacher from wasting time. Those who pass this challenging first stage complete the curriculum and composite exercises and are entitled to receive the diploma called “icâzetnâme”. However, the calligrapher’s education continues after this diploma and persists for a lifetime.
