The Knowledge Levels in High School Teachers and Tecaher Trainers About Adolescence Suicides in İzmir

Öz Objective: The aim of the study is to investigate the knowledge and opinions of high school teachers and trainers about adolescence suicides. The sample of the study contained 135 high school teachers and 152 fourth grades students who educated different departments in Education Faculty at Buca in İzmir. Method: In this study data were collected using Adolescent Suicide Behavior Questionnaire which was developed Scouller and Smith (2002) and an information sheet. Analysis of data were performed by using frequencies analysis, ANOVA with Scheffe test and t-test. Results: The findings have shown that although teacher trainer shave more knowledge than high school teachers, both teacher trainers and high schoolteachers were not well informed about adolescent suicides. More ever many teacher trainers and high school teachers did not determine risk factors, precipating factors, demographic factors and differentiate warning signs.Conclusion: Basing on the findings of the study it was thought that it is important to plan comprehensive and systematic prevention guidance activities for teachers because of increased adolescents suicide attempts in Turkey. At the same time it was suggested that educate teacher trainers about prevention guidance especially in the lecture of "Guidance" in order to increase knowledge levels of teacher trainers about adolescent suicides
