DIAGNOSIS OF PERSONALITY DISORDERS: RECENT FINDINGS AND DIAGNOSTIC QUESTIONNAIRES

Personality disorders can be defined as, sustained behavioral patterns that cause problems in affectivity, cognition, impulse control and interpersonal relationships. To reduce the risks that a person with personality disorder can cause for himself and his environment, diagnosing these disorders is crucial and also difficult in these circumstances. Although genetic and neuroimaging studies for personality disorders have been conducted recently, there is no diagnostic biomarker available yet. There are many questionnaires and interviews based on theories about personality disorders constituted for diagnosis. Still too little of these were translated to Turkish and served for Turkish clinicians. There is a need for Turkish adaptation, validity and reliability studies of these mostly used tools and development of new questionnaires suitable for Turkish society should be taken into consideration
