AMAÇ: Remisyondaki ülseratif kolit ve Crohn hastalarında otonom sinir sistemi tutulumu olup olmadığını değerlendirmek ve bu tutulumun hastaların demografik özellikleri, hastalığın süresi, tutulum şekli, sigara kullanımı ile olan ilişkisini incelemektir.YÖNTEMLER: Çalışmaya Haydarpaşa Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Gastroenterohepatoloji bölümünden en az 12 aydır takipli olan, 18-65 yaş aralığında remisyonda, 20 ülseratif kolit ile 20 Crohn hastası ve yaş ve cins açısından bu hastalarla eşdeğer 20 adet sağlıklı kontrol alınarak tüm katılımcılara standart otonom testler uygulandı.BULGULAR: Kontrol grubunun otonom skor ortalamaları Crohn ve ülseratif kolit gruplarından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede düşük bulunurken,Crohn ve ülseratif kolit grupları arasında ise istatistiksel farklılık gözlenmemiştir. Pankoliti olan ülseratif kolit hastalarında otonom skor olmayanlara göre anlamlı olarak yüksek bulunmuştur.SONUÇ: Çalışmamızda, ülseratif kolit grubunun otonom skoru, Crohn hastalığı grubunda olduğu gibi, kontrol grubuna gore istatistiksel olarak anlamlı derecede yüksekti. Bu etkilenme hastalığın direkt sinir sistemi üstüne etkisine bağlı olabileceği gibi, ekstraintestinal bir manifestasyonu veya hastalığın etiyolojisinde rol oynayan faktörlerden biri olabilir.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to identify whether autonomic nervous system involvement is present in patients with remitting ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease who were followed-up by the authors and to examine the relationships between autonomic nervous system involvement and the patient demographical characteristics, disease duration, involvement pattern and smoking habit.METHODS: This study included 20 patients with ulcerative colitis and 20 patients with Crohn’s disease with the ages of 18-65 years who had been followed up for minimum 12 months at Haydarpaşa Numune Education and Research Hospital, Gastroenterohepatology Clinic. Twenty age- and sex-matched healthy controls were also included in the study. All patients underwent standard autonomic tests.RESULTS: Mean autonomic scores of the control group were significantly lower than the scores of the Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis groups, whereas no statistically significant difference was found between groups with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Autonomic score was significantly higher in ulcerative colitis patients with pancolitis compared to those without pancolitis.CONCLUSION: Autonomic scores of the ulcerative colitis group, as in the Crohn’s disease group, were significantly higher compared to the control group. This result may be associated with the direct effect of the disease on the nervous system but may also be an extraintestinal manifestation or a factor involved in the etiology of the disease. It should always be born in mind that symptoms associated with autonomic neuropathy may develop during the course of inflammatory bowel disease.
