The Effects of The Cadmium on The Seed Germination, Root Growth and Root Tıp Cell Mitotic Divisons of Vicia Peregrina L.

In this study, the effects of cadmium CdCl2 one of the signifi cant environmental pollutant, on seed germination, root growth and mitotic divisions of the root tip cells of vetch Vicia peregrina were investigated. Different concentrations 0.125, 0.250, 0.500, 1 ve 2 mM Cd+2 of cadmium were applied. It was observed that there are no signifi cant differences in the germination of seeds that exposed to low cadmium concentrations. On the other hand, at higher concentrations of cadmium inhibited germination. In addition, root growth was inhibited according to the control group at all concentrations. In parallel to the increase of the cadmium concentrations cell division was decreased, several mitotic anomalies such as, don’t gather on metaphase plate, lagging chromosomes in anaphase, chromosome bridges and lagging chromosomes in telophase were increased.
