Kendine özgü bir gelenek içinde söylenen maniler, bir ucuyla günümüze uzanır. Çağlar boyu yaygın bir biçimde süren mani söyleme geleneği, son yıllarda eskiye oranla gücünü yitirmeye başlamıştır. Bu çalışmayla, Balıkesir yöresinde mani söyleme geleneğinin günümüzdeki durumu; köyden kente göç olgusunun, toplumsal yapıdaki değişimlerin mani söyleme geleneğinin üzerindeki etkileri belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Maniyle ilgili olarak Performans Teori'ye göre canlı bir geleneğin incelenmesi gerçekleştirilmiş, Balıkesir'deki mani icracıları gruplandırılarak tanıtılmış ve elde edilen bulgular söz konusu teoriye göre değerlendirilmiştir. Veriler, halk bilimindeki sahada derleme metotları kullanılarak sağlanmıştır.

Manis, which are performed in their original characteristic tradition, have reached today. The tradition of commonly performing mani for ages has started to lose its strength when it is compared with previous terms. In this research, it is tried to determine the recent state of the tradition of performin manis in Balıkesir region; the effect the fact of migration from country to cities, the changes in social form upon tradition of mani performing. Related to mani, according to Performance Theory it is realized to analyze a live tradition, performers of mani in Balıkesir are categorized and made known and collected data was evaluated according to this theory. Data was supplied with utilizing compiling methods in field of folklore. Key Words: Mani, Turkish Folk Poem, mani performance, Balıkesir.
