1925’te kurulup 1929’de elektrik üretmeye baslayan Trabzon Elektrik Türk Anonim Sirketi, yerli kaynakları kullanmak suretiyle Türk parasının dısarı çıkmasını engelleyen ve yerli sermaye ile kurulan sirket olması bakımından ilk örneklerden birisiydi. Sirket, makalede anlatılacak olan bütün zorluklara rağmen, devletin de desteğini alarak, uzun süre Trabzon ve Akçaabat’ın elektriğini üretmeye devam etti. 1930’ların sonuna gelindiğinde ise, aldığı borçları ödeyemeyen ve beklenen karı yapamayan sirketin belediyeye devri gündeme geldi. Gerekli islemlerin yapılmasının ardından belediyeye devredilen Visera (Isıklar)’daki elektrik santrali, 1970’lerde Türkiye Elektrik Kurumu’na, 2000’li yıllarda ise özel sektöre devredildi.

Trabzon Electricity Company was founded in 1925 and started to produce electricity in 1929. This company is important because it was the first foundation that was founded with domestic resources and capital and that prevented the efflux of Turkish Money. Despite all the difficulties to be explained in the article, the company went on producing electricity of Trabzon and Akçabat for a long time with the support of the government. Towards the end of the 1930s, because the company was not able to pay its debts and to make the expected profit, its transfer to the municipality was brought to the agenda. After the necessary procedures the Visera (Isıklar) power plant was transferred to the municipality. In the 1970s, the plant was transferred to the Turkish Electricity Administration, and in the 2000s to the private sector
