Bugünkü Ordu iline tekabül eden coğrafyanın tarihinde "Abdal" imlasıyla kaydedilen üç önemli şahsiyet söz konusudur. Bunlar Kabataş ilçesinde Şid Abdal, Turnasuyu'nde Şeyh Piro/Abdal ve Karacaömer Beldesi'nde Sâmit Abdal'dır. Söz konusu şahsiyetlerden üçünün de 14.yüzyılın son çeyreğinde ortaya çıktıkları görülmek- tedir. Bu tarih Hacemiroğulları Beyliği'nin bölgede egemen olduğu zaman dilimidir. Ordu yöresi Abdalan zümresini temsil eden bu dervişler, sanıldığının aksine Batınî olmayıp, savaşarak fetih sürecine iştirak eden; köylerde zaviyeler ve camiler kurarak iskan sürecine katılan bir karaktere sahiptirler.

Three prominent figures should be credited as “ Abdals” (a term attributed to the wandering dervishes) in a geography that corresponds to the province of Ordu at present. They are, namely, Şid Abdal from Kabataş County, Şeyh Piro from Turnasuyu County and Samit Abdal from Karacaömer County. It is worth noting that all the three Abdals appeared in the last quarter of the 14th century, when Hacemioğulları (a dynasty) reigned in the region. These dervishes who represented the Abdalan community in Ordu region were unusually non-Batıni, took part in the process of conquest and got involved in the settlement process through establishing mosques and zawiyahs (Islamic religious schools) in villages.
