Determination of Length-Weight and Length-Length Relationships for Garfish Belone belone Inhabiting in Different Coasts of Kocaeli (Turkey)

This study aimed to determine the relationships between length-weight and length-length relationships in 221 Garfish Belone belone individual caught between October and November 2018 in the Sea of Marmara and Black Sea coasts of Kocaeli. Black Sea samples were caught from Kocaeli Kandıra (79 ♀, 29 ♂), Sea of Marmara samples from Kocaeli Darıca (87 ♀, 26 ♂). The total length of the samples obtained in the study is between 30.4-44.5 cm in the Black Sea and 27.9-51.6 cm in the Sea of Marmara. Their weights range between 32.6-92.0 g in the Black Sea and between 15.4-91.6 g in the Sea of Marmara. Since the differences between all values of male and female individuals in both populations were not statistically different (P>0.05), calculations were made from all individuals. The length-weight relationship equations were calculated as W= 0,0006L3,171 (R2=0.91) in Blacksea samples, as W= 0,0007L3,115 (R2=0.96) Sea of Marmara samples for all specimens. The “b” value of LWR was significantly different from 3.0 (P<0.05) and their growth type was positive allometric. The relation equations of total length-fork length, total length-standard length ve fork length-standard length in the populations of Sea of Marmara and Black Sea were also determined.
