AB, üç Güney Kafkas ülkesi ile kurumsal temelde ve diğer uluslararası kuruluşlar çerçevesinde ilişkiye sahip olduğu gibi, münferit AB üyesi ülkeler de bu Kafkas ülkeleriyle birebir ilişkiye sahiptirler. Ancak bu ilişkiler beklenen yoğunlukta olmayıp, sözkonusu ülkelerin dönüşüm evresini atlatmalarına yardım çabasından öteye geçmiş değildir. Bunun sebebi, petrol dışında Kafkasların siyasi veya iktisadi bir cazibesinin bulunmaması, ayrıca da ABD ve Rusya'nın bu bölgede Avrupa'ya fırsat vermemesidir.

The EU has contacts with the three South Caucasian republics Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia, on organizational base and within the other International organizations. Individual EU members has relations with individual Caucasian republics. These relations are not on the expected level, and have not much exceeded the efforts to help the Caucacians transform their economies and societies. Major reasons are the political and economic lack of charm in the region, except petrol, and that the USA and Russia leaves no room for Europe to play in the Caucasus.
