Evaluation of abdominal vascular structures by multidetector computed tomography in Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever patients

Aim: This study aims to determine whether Crimean–Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) has effects on abdominal vascular structures. Material and Method: The study group included 35 patients diagnosed with CCHF. The control group included 35 patients with symptoms such as dyspepsia, pelvic pain, and abdominal pain who underwent multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) and whose MDCT examinations were reported as completely normal. This is a retrospective study and patients admitted to the hospital between May 2016 and April 2022 were included in the study. The patient group and control group were compared in terms of liver size, splenic size, and portal vein (PV), hepatic artery (HA), splenic vein (SV), splenic artery (SA), superior mesenteric vein (SMV) and superior mesenteric artery (SMA) diameters. Results: The liver size, splenic size, and PV, HA, and SA diameters in the patient group were significantly higher than those in the control group (p<0.001). While the SV, SMV, and SMA diameters were higher in the patient group than in the control group, the differences were not significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: Our study shows that abdominal vascular structures are affected in CCHF patients.
