İntraabdominal enfeksiyonlar yoğun bakım ünitelerinde ağır sepsisin sık görülen bir nedeni olup morbidite, mortalite ve maliyet artışı ile ilişkilidir. Erken tanı, yeterli cerrahi veya drenaj, erken ve yeterli antibiyotik tedavisi yoğun bakımda yatan hastaların morbidite ve mortalitesini azaltmaktadır.
