The impact of COVID-19 on global health and other aspects of human life

Keywords: COVID-19; educational systems; global health; real-time PCR; Vaccine.COVID-19 has emerged as a serious public health problem in recent times. It is an infectious disease caused by a novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The place of origin of this virus is Wuhan city, China in late December 2019, has spread throughout the world rapidly. There are two important classes of the Coronavirus affecting human beings: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). Coronavirus is a positive-sense, single-stranded RNA (+ssRNA) virus. Diagnosis of the COVID-19 is done by taking a nasal swab, tracheal aspirate or bronchoalveolar samples and RT-PCR. COVID-19 treatment generally depends on the severity and/or the health status of the infected patient. The treatment strategy, so far, includes the use of antiviral drugs. Clinical trials of vaccines were started in early 2020 by different companies and some are released that are in use. Preventive measures are social/physical distancing, masking and isolation of infected individuals. Although educational systems have used various learning management systems there are concerns about the online teaching system in comparison to the traditional classroom teaching system. In this review, we have tried to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the health systems worldwide and other aspects of human life.
