Evaluation of Augmented Reality Use in Aircraft Maintenance Training

The Industry 4.0 revolution, which emerges with new technologies today, accelerates digitalization. In addition, the educational demands of the digital generation, which has been growing with the internet since birth and defined as the "Z generation", are rapidly transforming with new opportunities. Z generation prefers digital items to textual items and wants personal learning independent of time and space. Digitalization and learning preferences of the Z generation make the transformation compulsory in education as in every field. Trainings are given more effectively and affordably with virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) applications that have emerged recently. In this study, especially the applications of AR applications, which emerged with Industry 4.0 in education and especially in aircraft maintenance field were examined. In the last part, the availability of AR applications in aircraft maintenance education has been evaluated within the framework of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recognized school requirements, and a workshop on the initiation of certification studies has been proposed by determining the standards of AR applications in aircraft maintenance.
