Kloasma, II.

Can Cloasma Be Predicted By 2nd Trimester Screening Tests?

Aim: The relationship between melasma formation and increasing hormones during pregnancy is apperent. Our aim is to research the relation of pregnant women’s melasma formation and hormone levels of second trimester scanning test E3, AFP, β-HCG .Material and Methods: 91 primigravide miad pregnants is included to study. 47 of pregnants had cloasma and 44 of pregnants had not cloasma. Two groups are compared for E3, AFP, β-HCG levels, skin colour, family story, allergy story, cigarette usage, oral contraceptive OKS usage and sun protective usage, vitamin usage, mother profession and baby sex. Results: No difference is detected between two groups for hormon levels. Higher male baby and family story rate were statistically significant for the group with cloasma p=0,015, p=0,011 .Conclusion: The hormone levels of second trimester scanning test do not inform for melasma formation. Not only increasing hormone levels during pregnancy but also other factors have affect on melasma formation. The most important of them is family story. Contrary to popular belief, melasma has more relation with male sex.
