The Use Finite Elements Method in Transformations

In order to employ global reference frames and advanced spacebased measurement techniques more efficiently in geodeticapplications, transformation methods that meet the expectedrequirements are needed. What is expected from a transformationis that it should meet the required accuracy, result in no discontinuityand no corrections for common points and it should be suitable forautomation processes. In geodetic transformation applications inlarger areas uncertainity is an important problem taking place. Inthis paper, uncertainity problems in transformation processes isinvestigated and suggested the models based on finite elementsapproach rather than geometric transformation methods that areinsufficient in larger areas. The main objective of this study was to find out a different solutionfor geodetic transformations using finite elements methods. For thispurpose, a computer software for the created mathematical modelshave been developed and tested on a real geodetic network. Theresults show that this method can be applied in this field. When theresults are analysed, it is seen that the required values regardingcontinuity can be obtained. In addition high accuracies can beachieved in the interpolation of absolute values transformation withtriangular elements
