Global mapping is an international collaborative initiative throughvoluntary participation of national mapping organizations of theworld, aiming to develop globally homogeneous geographic dataset at the ground resolution of 1km, and to establish concretepartnership among governments, NGOs, private sectors, dataproviders and users to share information and knowledge for sounddecision-making.The primary objective of Global Map project is to contribute tothe sustainable development through the provision of base frameworkgeographic dataset, which is necessary to understand the currentsituation and changes of environment of the world.The purpose of the Global Map is to accurately describe thepresent status of the global environment in international cooperationof respective National Mapping Organizations NMOs of the world.International Steering Committee for Global Mapping ISCGM has been playing a central role in the development of the GlobalMap data sets. It was established in February 13th 1996 in Tsukubain Japan by the participants of the Preparatory Meeting of theISCGM, and its First Meeting was held in February 14th, 1996.The Global Map data sets produced by converting existinggeographic information into Global Map Specifications and country specific data sets for 23 countries developed by respective NMOsare currently distributed to the public through internet web site ISCGM Web p. At March 08th 2006, at the web page of International SteeringCommittee for Global Mapping was published the Global Map dataof Macedonia as the first European country. This data is open forall governmental institutions, private sector and other users, onlyfor non-commercial uses
