Mosque Inscriptions in the Museum of Qasr al-Manyal in Cairo

Qasr al-Manyal occupies a very significant place in the museums of Egypt. The museum, built by Heidiw Mahmad Ali Tawfiq on a wide land in the Island of al-Rodah, consists of eight separate sections. This museum comprises a number of different Islamic arts, especially Turkish Islamic Arts. Among them, mosque architecture and inscriptions have a rather particular importance. There is one particular piece of writing which is probably the first sample of its kind in the Turkish Architecture, that is the linear calligraphy produced by Hulusi Efendi in the style of cali taliq, known as Azan-i Muhammadi. The museum also houses many other calligraphies penned by the famous contemporary calligraphers such as Hamid Efendi and Hulusi Efendi.
