Aesthetic Perception in 2D Pixel Art in the Context of Retro Concept
Despite the popularization of three-dimensional graphics and augmented reality applications in the mid-1990s, two-dimensional pixel art, which opened the door to players in search of a different perception of reality, started to rise. Two-dimensional pixel art, which is an aesthetic process because it reflects the simplicity of the period, takes the players of the period to the past by giving them nostalgia and arouses warm feelings, includes all the design processes whose display unit consists entirely of pixels and is made with image software. The fact that the games applied on these pixels become a retro phenomenon by reflecting the historical past comes across as a stylized representation of the past. The study aims to provide a framework for the aesthetic elements around which past trends are used through the concept of retro in pixel art, where the concepts of reality evolve to a different point in digital art. Under the categories of material revival, immaterial revival and real revival, Retro leads to the basic processes of reality and forms of resistance to it, with an aesthetic challenge to the perception of history and memory.
