Yazara göre İmam Şâfiî’nin (ö. 204/820) ortaya koyduğu metodolojik yaklaşım, Kuran ve sünnet vahyinin birer kanun metni gibi algılanmalarına ve yorumlanmalarına giden yolu açmıştır. Bu sürecin incelenmesi, Şâfiî fıkhının klasik şeklini nasıl aldığı sorusuna da cevap teşkil etmektedir. Bu yazıda Ahmed El Shamsy’nin söz konusu eseri incelenecektir.

The book written by Ahmed El Shamsy examines the adventure of the emergence of Shafi’iism, its transformation into a school of Islamic law, and its effects on groups other than Shafi’i. The emergence of Islamic sciences, the process of transferring oral tradition to written tradition and Islamic law are the main areas on which the author works. The author, who is currently teaching at the University of Chicago, has another book published with the following title: “Rediscovering the Islamic Classics: How Editors and Print Culture Transformed an Intellectual Tradition”. According to the author, the methodological approach introduced by Imam Shafi’i (d. 204/820) paved the way for the perception and interpretation of the Qur’an and the Sunnah revelation as a text of law. Studying this process also constitutes an answer to the question of how Shafi’i fiqh acquired its classical form. In this article, Ahmed El Shamsy’s book will be examined.
