Wind Energy Conversion System Using DFIG Controlled by Backstepping and Sliding Mode Strategies

Wind Energy Conversion System Using DFIG Controlled by Backstepping and Sliding Mode Strategies

The aim of this paper is to compare some backstepping and sliding mode control strategies for a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) used in wind energy conversion systems (WECS). The DFIG connected to the grid through two power converters: Rotor Side Converter (RSC) and Grid Side Converter (GSC). There are two different controllers technique to control the two power converters: Backstepping and Sliding mode control (SMC). The backstepping strategy is asymptotically stable in the context of Lyapunov theory. Simulation results have shown good performances of the system under these proposed control strategies. Compared to backstepping control strategy, the sliding mode control approach presents best performances.
