Reducing negative externalities through public policies, increasing the knowledge of individuals about obesity disease and food causing obesity, designing time preferences to be beneficial in the long term, and obesity is accepted as demerit goods and measures are taken accordingly. The aim of the study is to examine the reasons and the reasons of public policy against obesity. In this context, it has been reached that the market is not functioning effectively in the area of obesity disease and public policies are necessary and important in the effective struggle against obesity.
