A research on the correlation and path coefficient analysis of yield and yield components of cotton ( Gossypium Hirsutum L . ) in Harran Plain conditions.

This study was conducted to determine the direct and indirect effects between yield and yield components of the cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) plants, in Harran Plain conditions, at Agriculture Faculty of Harran University in 1993.-1994 years. The Path Coefficient Analysis was applied by the Phenotipic Correlations at the twelve cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) varieties which was selected as a plant material. At the results of this study, significant and positive a relationship were found among the seed cotton yield and height of the plant and number of bolls and lint fineness (micronaire); significant and negative a relationships were found among the seed cotton yield and ginning outturn and number of the carpel and earliness index (percentage of the first picking). It was fixed that the height of plant and number of bolls have directly affected on the seed cotton yield. According to the findings, to taking into consideration firstly number of bolls and secondly the height of plant at the selection breeding programs for the seed cotton yield would be benefit.
